Converting Picas and Points (in decimals)
Sometimes you see the size of an image listed as something like 20p5. This means that it's 20 pica AND 5 points. A point is 1/12 of a pica. (You may recognize this from using word processors where you set your font size in points, as in "12 point" size.) To find the decimal equivalent of the points, use the table below. Find the "p-value" on the left and add the decimal value at the right
Quick Look:
p1 = 0.083
p2 = 0.166
p3 = 0.25
p4 = 0.333
p5 = 0.416
p6 = 0.5
p7 = 0.583
p8 = 0.666
p9 = 0.75
*p9.6 = 0.8
p10 = 0.833
p11 = 0.913
Samples:
20p1 is 20 pica + 1 point, or 20 pica + 0.083 pica, for a total of 20.083 picas
20p2 = 20.166 picas
20p9.6 = 20.8 picas
ALSO NOTE:
12 p (points) = 1 pica
6 picas = 1 inch
