PURPOSE

The purpose of this assignment is for you to create your own website about a city in history.

REQUIREMENTS

Based on the cities listed below, you will fill out a request form and rank the top three cities you may want to write about. I will then assign you a city and group who will all be working on the same empire. Most of the work will be done on an individual basis, but you will all be creating an empire homepage together and you may come across information you could share with your group.

You will need to research material about your city according to the guidelines provided and create a travel guide.

The travel guide needs to include at least SIX components about your city from the following list. All information must be written in your own words-- you may NOT cut and paste information from the internet. You should use sources other than websites when gathering information.
1. Background about the city- when was it formed and by whom? (required)
2. A map of the region and pictures of the city
3. What kind of government did they have?
4. What did they use for money?
5. What kinds of food did they eat? And what did they drink?
6. What did they do for entertainment?
7. What kind of clothing did they wear?
8. What were the sites to see?
9. What religions were practiced there?
10. What are examples of their customs?
11. What were some of the laws?
12. What did they use for transportation?
13. Anything else you think is important/interesting

STEPS

You will be taught how to use PageMill to create your website. You will also be given an orientation to the library so that you may research material effectively.

Once you have gathered all of your information, you will need to organize your material so that you will be able to create an easy to read guide about your designated city. You must cite all of your sources (including pictures) within the guide AND on a special bibliography page of your website. When citing your source within the text, you will need to use endnotes. I will explain what this means before the PageMill orientation

PageMill will be available on the classroom computer and three computers in the library so that you may work on the project outside of class time. If you are free B, C, or F blocks, let me know, and you may be able to join the other sections in the multi-media room for independent work.
