Religions of India

The primary religions of India are Islam and Hinduism. Hinduism is one of the oldest religions that currently exists today. It dates back to 4000 years ago. Hindus are polytheists, meaning they believe in many gods. They practice idolism, and worship idols of their gods. Every god has its own personality and appearence, much like the Greek gods. Hindus consider Brahma Bulls to be sacred, and do not eat meat because of this. Many Hindu beliefs are contrary, if not the total opposite of those of India's other prominant religion, Islam. Muslims believe in one god, Allah. They believe that the angel Gabriel was sent by Allah to Mohammed, the great prophet of Mecca. Mohammed travelled about the Middle East preaching what he believed to be his god's words, and condemning polytheism in all its forms. Like observant or Kosher Jews, Muslims do not eat pork. (2)
