The most sacred item in Mecca is the Kaaba. It is believed that Abraham built it so it is considered holy.(5) The shrine is a windowless black cube standing in the center of the huge venue. Also, inside the Kaaba rests a black stone which Muslims believe was given to Abraham by the angel Gabriel.(3) Every year, millions of Muslims flock to Mecca to attend the Hajj. "...all devout Muslims - wherever they live in the world - are supposed to make the pilgrimage to mecca once in their lives."(6) This is a pilgrimage required by all faithful Muslims to see the Kaaba and walk around it reciting prayer. The Great Mosque is the center of worship for all followers.(5) For centuries Muslims have come to see the holy Kaaba to pray and recite.
