Religion in Mecca

ISLAM

Mecca is the focal point of Islam. According to Islamic

tradition, Muslims around the woelf must face Mecca during

their daily prayers.(3) It is the birthplace of Muhhamad and

contains the Kaaba. Islam was basically founded in Mecca by the

profit Muhhamad. Muhhamad is the central profit in Islam and is

considered to holy to depict in art. It is believed that he was the

central profit and held greater significance than all previous

teachers such as Jesus. Muslims believe that Muhhamad visited

all the great profits of the past in Heaven and was in fact the

most sacred. Perhaps the most significant received revelations in

a cave from Allah who told him to recite. He memorized the

teachings and wrote them down forming the Koran. He then

taught the people of Mecca all he heard but was forced into

exile, making his famous flight to Medina. Upon his return

however, he conquered Mecca and destroyed the idols which

polluted the city. He made his teachings law and ruled the city

while expanding Islam at the same time. Muslims pray facing

towards Mecca and are forced to visit the holy city at least once

in their lifetime to attend the Hajj. Only Islam is allowed to be

practiced within the city borders. Islamic law governed the

people and was everywhere.
