The Ottoman's history reeks with the smell
of war, from massacres (e.g. The Massacre of Janissaries) to ones
involving the World (e.g. World War I). The Ottoman Empire was
even titled "The Successors to Rome" due to their geographical
position in the middle east and their bloody past. They reigned
from 1350-1918 in which they fought and won many wars:

| 1389 | Ottomans defeat Serbs at Kosovo | |
| 1402 | Tamerlane defeats Ottomans at Ankara | |
| 1453 | The Ottomans conquer Constantinople. This marks a large change in the power the Ottomans possessed. Before this victory the Ottoman Turks where viewed by the Eastern powers as a gnat not even worth swatting. However, with their capture of Constantinople (now named Istanbul) they were finally recognized as a world power. | |
