The Tokugawa Period (1600-1867)

 

 

The Tokugawa Period, also called the Edo period, was a time of political stability and the arts and culture of traditional Japan flourished. To keep a traditional Japan, foreigners and their cultures were denied entry, which resulted in a rise of urban merchant-class culture. Today, Japan has benefited from the urban growth but still keeps their customs.
