The Ottoman Turks were the members of the family of Osman and all of its descendants. However less specifically they were all the people who helped to run the empire, such as the officials, military and administrators. This family ruled over the Ottoman Empire for seven centuries, from the 13th century to the 20th century. The Ottoman Empire expanded from Innately to the Balkans, Armenia, Moldavia, and Wallachia. Because the empire had a lot of economic power and wealth they could easily raise armies, and invade countries taking their land, and adding it to their empire. The first group to dominate were the Seljuk Turks, but eventually the Osman Turks began to gain and increase their power, and then grew to found the Ottoman dynasty. This was a group of rulers whose right to rule passes down within the family. Socially the Ottoman Empire was split into two dynasties as two classes.
The Empire had a fair amount of
political power as well as a strong government, and influence on the rest of Europe, and other states. The Ottomans had a very dominant role towards the beginning of rule, threatening other European countries, but they became less of a threat to Europe by the end of the seventeenth century.
