What was once the Mughal Empire is now the present day Republic of India. It is a country that is isolated from the rest of Asia because of the great subcontinent that it is found on. Much of India's territory lies within this large peninsula. This is a republic that consists of 25 states and 7 less fully empowered union territories. The capital is New Delhi. India has the second largest population and accounts for more than one sixth of the world's population, 967,612,804 people. It also ranks as the seventh largest country in the world.

India is a highly sophisticated, urbanized culture. It's religious roots started in Hinduism and grew to include Islam, Buddhism, and Jainism. India remains as one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world. Apart from its many religions, India is home to many tribes and castes.
