Should Marijuana be legalized?

Since the beginning of time people have used Marijuana as a release; a way to aleviate pain or suffering. It never was a big deal until the 60's and 70's when people started using it as a very recreational drug. This lead to the feeling of invincibility where teenagers who smoked and felt no different and thought that it was no big deal would go and try new drugs. Hence we had the 80's, millions of crack babies were born without fathers, into poverty and with serious birth defects that would affect them for the rest of their live. However, in the early 1900's the prohibition era occured where alcohol was banned due to the negative effects that it had on people. It was a failure, the same thing occurred then that occurs now with Marijuana: it is sold underground. The main problem now is that it can be impure, or laced, by drug dealers hoping to quickly addict the person who is smoking and bring in more business. If the government were to legalize it this risk would be eliminated due to the purity standards that our government holds every consumed good to. Basically, there are two ways legalization could go: we could have a devastating repeat of the Eighties, or we could eliminate the health issue involved with underground sales.
