
Homosexuals have been excluded from society since the beginning. This gave them no equal protection under the large branch of the law. In the 1800s, the Emancipation Proclamation gave freedom to black people from slavery. Women were given the freedoms reserved only for males. None the less, everyone still knows the underlying feeling of nation in dealing with minorities and women. Hate crimes are still perpetrated in this country. The general public is now dealing with the problem with homosexuals, and their struggle to gain rights in America. Though subtle, this persecution has not been seen by the naked eye or the public.
The main question today is do homosexuals have the right to be a part of our country's military. In a survey taken in 1990, the American population on a whole is said to consist of 13-15 percent homosexuals.With so many homosexuals in America, how can the military prove its exclusion policy against homosexuals to be ethical?
