Should The Definition of Marriage be Limited to Heterosexuals?
What is homosexuality? The Webster dictionary defines it as: "1) of, relating to , or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex. 2) of, relating to, or involving in sexual intercourse between persons of the same sex." Is that all that the word entails, or is there more that what meets the eye?
Homosexual marriages is an issue that is tearing our country apart. The division between church and state isn't as clear as it once was, and the people are torn between being true to their church (and state), and being fair to others. Discrimination is no longer between races, but now between the two sexes, and society is having a hard time in deciding which is right. How will homosexual marriages effect our society? Is it really the only entity that will destroy our country as we know it?
The voice for objecting homosexual marriages is strong and loud. The foundation is based mainly in the American Christian values, and bases its opinion on what a "real family" is and what it should be. How the Bible and God think about homosexuality is what some people believe to be right. What exactly does marriage mean in the United States? Who makes the definitions and whom does it apply to? What does a marriage encompass, and why is it so hard to imagine that homosexual couples can fit into that definition?
What right does the law have in marriage? Should the government have the right to step in and take away peoples benefits because of their sexual orientation? The law has stated that no benefits should be given to homosexuals if they do marry, not only that but homosexual marriages are only recognized in one out of the fifty states in this country. Again the question of the church and state being separated in very vague.
