Sportsmanship was once considered one of the most important aspects of sports. Showing good sportsmanship towards opponents was just as important as winning or losing. The question is, has the emphasis on sportsmanship declined? Over the past few years there is plenty of evidence to support the fact that most athletes and coaches put a higher emphasis on winning, even if requires poor sportsmanship. Teams and individuals have tried to bend rules or break "unwritten" rules of their sport in order to gain an advantage and have a better chance of succeeding. Despite a decline in sportsmanship, it is still important and there are several organizations that have put an emphasis on ethical behavior in sports.
