Should industrial progress be more important than the preservation of the environment?

The environment has been one of mother natures best assets. It provides the human race with food, and a form of shelter. Before industrialization nature was at its best, no pollution and toxic chemicals were being dumped in the environment. We as humans have the responsibility to do everything we can in order to preserve what the planet has given us, and what she can still give. However, with industries dumping toxic wastes and harmful chemicals into the environment, it is harder to concentrate merely on the environment, but more likely on the best interest of the human race.
