1. Getting in Touch
*Each student will receive a handout detailing the
economic, political, cultural, and social background of their decade.
*This is the first step towards Ògetting to touchÓ with
the Òspirit of the times.Ó
*After reading this introduction on your decade, a typed
response to the following questions will be turned in for my review.
a.
Make a list of at least 5 adjectives that you think
best describes the overall feeling of your decade.
b.
How would you sum up this decade?
c.
What events were most influential and why?
DUE DATE: April 3rd & 4th
2. Individual Timeline
*Each student will create a timeline of his or her decade. Choose topics from each year that represents a full view of this ten-year period of history. Examples might include: inventions, popular movies, people who stand out as representative Americans, politics, the economy, wars, TV, music, social and political phenomena, the environment, legislation, medicine, science, technology, disasters, etc.
*Think about the setting; make use of color to distinguish different categories and create a legend for guidance. Examples might include: politics, economy, science & technology, etc.
*After completing your timeline, type a 2-3 paragraph response to the following question:
ÒWhat events did you choose as particularly important on your timeline and why?
