
Rita Hayworth, the pin-up girl of the 1940's inspired many people. Hayworth was born on October 17, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY. Her real name was Margartia Carmen Dolores Cansino, but sometimes went by Rita Cansino Some people say the "margarita" was named after her, while she was dancing in Tijuana. Also known as the "Love Goddess", Hayworth was one of the sexiest stars to grace the cinema screen. The movie "Gilda" gave her national attention. Hayworth drove service-men all over the world crazy; she was beautiful, feminine and often photographed in sexy wear. Troops would put up posters of her, givng way to the name "pin-up girl". Not only did she help take the minds off of war for the troops, but she was idolized by men at home, as well. She was one of the most famous actresses of the 1940's. Although Rita was usually portrayed as a sexy character, in real life, she was shy and quiet. She was married and divorced five times. Hayworth died on May 14, 1987 in New York, NY due to Alzheimer's disease.
