Rosa Parks is known as the "mother of the civil rights movement". She started the Montgomery bus boycott by simply not giving up her seat to a white person. Refusing to give up her seat, Rosa parks started a successful boycott and it was a large part in the Civil Rights Movement. The refusal to give up her seat was also a turning point for the battle of the Civil Rights Movement.
On the first of December, 1955 the driver of the bus asked Rosa parks and three other blacks to give up their seats because in the 1950's the bus was segregated and the colored sat in the back unless there was an empty seat. The other three African Americans went to the back but Rosa Parks was tired and did not feel like moving. Then the police arrested her and took her to jail. She got out that day for 100 dollars.
Four days after her arrest there was a large boycott on the buses and they all walked. It was suppose to be a day long boycott but it actually lasted 381days. The African Americans were planning to boycott the buses until the bus companies went out of businesses or till they desegregate the buses. After the 381 days the district court ruled the segregated buses unconstitutional.
Rosa Parks was really important in the 1950's because she took a stand in what she believed. Because of this Martin Luther King decided to take a leadership role which later guided him to a national figure. During the fifties thousands of Americans in the South were trying to desegregate the schools, restaurants, stores, libraries, and public facilities including buses. Rosa Parks was important during this decade because she represents the thousands of Americans who took a stand for desegregation even if they were beaten or arrested. She was one of the many brave people because she took a stand knowing that she could get beaten or even killed.
Rosa Parks was one of the bravest representatives in the 1950's for taking a stand for what she believed. Doing something very simple like refusing to give up her seat changed a lot of American lives. She is the spirit of the 1950's because she influenced thousands of Americans to take a stand it the 50's and try to desegregate schools restaurants and public facilities. Rosa Parks was one of the main representatives of the 1950's and the pioneer for the civil rights movement.
