This is a group project where students will study a plot of land. The goal is to develop an understanding of the local ecosystems in the Bay area and how they work. Students will collect data on animal and plants types and identify the biome/ecosystem they are studying.

Students will have four assignments over the course of the 1st semester.

Assessment:

This ecology Porject will be worth 10% of your 1st semester grade. Of that 10%, 8% will be a group grade and 2% will be based on your individual contribution to the project.
You will be required to visit your site periodically throughout the semester. You will be expected to hand in your project work 1- 2 times per month (this will vary). Your completed project will be due at the end of the semester.

Students will work in teams. The following is the make up of the groups.

Team Roles
These are suggested team roles – please be flexible & help each other out as needed. These roles will rotate for each of the four major assignments.

• Team leader - organizes visits to the site, manages the team & coordinates work of all team members so that binder is ready on due date, serves as research assistant.
• Researcher – carries out any research needed e.g. identifying biomes, classifying plants & animals, etc…
• Image Producer – takes & develops photos, finds or produces images as needed – e.g. drawings. When workload is heavy, the Publisher will assist in this role.
• Publisher - collects data and materials from team members, assembles & organizes binder, helps Image Producer as needed.
