Pesticides: Food Preservation
The metabolism is responsible for transferring the energy between cells which is necessary for the insects to continue to develop or continue living. Some of these pesticides can inhibit the metabolism. As well as metabolism inhibitors they have nervous system inhibitors, which can permanently alter the nervous system which thus kills the insect. In using pesticides there has to be an understanding of what they do to the creature to determine if they are useful for trying to keep the crop protected. Some pesticides contain toxic material that can block cellular respiration. Thus the insect can not breathe which ultimately ends up killing the insect. As well as having chemicals that inhibit the respiratory system, there are pesticides that have metabolism inhibitors. Protein inhibitors are also a part of the inhibitors.

Proteins such as enzymes control many important cell functions. Many pesticides aim to disrupt enzyme processes or denature proteins. Hormone inhibitors are also a type of pesticide inhibitor. Hormones are biochemical messengers that control many of the biological functions of organisms, including the growth and reproductive cycles. Several pesticides simulate or otherwise interfere with hormones to disrupt these cycles. Thus the insects can not reproduce and then they can't destroy all of the crop life.
Since there are also types of pesticides for plants, the pesticides inhibit the photosynthesis of plants, which is the main source of survival for the plants. By inhibiting the plants photosynthesis they are destroyed because they can't survive and they die.
Some pesticides are residual in action and continue to be effective for days, weeks or months after their application.
