Today was the day we'd all been waiting for - the big climb up the Col
du Tourmalet. Our hotel proprietor wished us "Bon Courage" as
we departed on the 12-mile climb. Fortunately the weather was excellent,
clear and not overly hot. Lots of huffing and puffing, but we all made
it, with a glorious view at the summit and a screaming descent down the
other side. Tom and Jon attempted a little cyclocross to bag Pic du Midi,
off the summit of the Tourmalet, but were foiled in their attempt by a
mid-afternoon thunderstorm. Discretion is the better part of valor....
Harlan's photo project for the trip was to take a picture of every km
sign up the climb. I thought his efforts should be recorded for posterity.
