      <title>Project 7: Exploring Abstraction</title>

They work to capture and create images that are about ideas, shape, color or form. We have moved from the Curtis Hall darkroom to the New Media Lab so that everyone can use a workstation. One of our first tasks is to learn how to use a digital SLR camera, iPhoto and Photoshop. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Students are learning to control the various aspects of the camera through a variety of specific challenge projects. In addition, students are learning the basics of digital editing with Photoshop. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Here are a few examples of a short assignment on the subject of Rain....&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt; Caitlin Peltz&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt; P. We compared photojournalism to fine art and commercial photography, and have also looked at examples of award winning photographs. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;In preparation for the larger film project, students were given a choice of three short, digital assignments (How Green is Menlo? Menlo Staff, and Construction at Menlo) to build up their experience in communicating visually and editing quickly. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Students are currently working on a film-based, personal photojournalism style project which documents some aspect of their own lives as a high school student. &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;</description>
